Roger Colee Obituary

Roger & Betty Colee
Roger P. Colee, age 83, and Betty Owens Colee, age 83, of St. Augustine, passed away five days apart on Dec. 23, 2020 and December 28, 2020 at Flagler Hospital. Roger & Betty met while in high school, he attended St. Joseph Academy and she attended Ketterlinus High, became sweethearts, and spent the rest of their lives together. They were lifelong residents of St. Augustine.
Roger was born to Robert and Madeline (Pacetti) Colee in Bakersville, Florida. After graduating from St. Joseph Academy, he started his career with the State of Florida in the Division of Forestry, and transitioned to the Florida Highway Patrol, Division of Drivers License, and finally to the Division of Motor Vehicles Inspections during a career that spanned 42 years. After retiring, he took a part time position with Centaur Courier Services contracted by Prosperity Bank. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a member of Turning Point at Calvary. Roger enjoyed making and sharing his homemade recipe of Colee's hot sauce, traveling on his Honda Goldwing, camping with his family and working with his hands. He will be greatly missed as he loved people and never met a stranger.
Betty was born to William and Ruby (Terry) Owens in Sanford, Florida. She moved to St. Augustine with her family at the age of 3. She graduated from Ketterlinus High School and shortly after went to work for the Dept of Military Affairs working for the Florida National Guard. Betty accomplished much during her time with the guard, and wore many hats, working in payroll, serving as secretary for the top brass, and working in human resources. She retired in 2014 after 55 years of service.
Together, Roger and Betty established a home where they raised a family of three children, enjoyed traveling to the mountains, camping at Disney, and enjoyed holidays and family gatherings. They were members of Turning Point at Calvary. Roger & Betty were well known and loved by their community and they will be deeply missed.
They leave behind to cherish their memories children, Cheryl Reese (David) and their 3 children, Austin Reese, Brittney Reese and Jessica Brumleve; Wayne Colee (Kim) and their 4 children, Anthony Quintieri, Nicole Quintieri, Dominic Quintieri, and Zach Quintieri; Shauna Griffith (Cameron); Roger's sister, LaVerne Edenfield, 3 great grandchildren, and many extended family, friends and co-workers in the community.
A combined funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Turning Point at Calvary. Interment will follow at Craig Memorial Park. A visitation, beginning at 10 am will precede the service. In keeping with the COVID -19 guidelines we ask that all attendees wear masks and practice social distancing. We also ask that if you are at high risk, feeling ill, or traveling from an area with a high level of infection, please do not attend the visitation or service. Sending my sincere condolences and prayer to the precious family of Mr. and Mrs. Colee. Cheryl and Wayne, your parents were a blessing to all. Your dad was the instructor when I took my drivers test. This is very sad and we all are assured they are instantly with our Lord. God bless you all.

First met "Mr. Colee" at Prosperity Bank when he was a courier between branches and he was ALWAYS pleasant even under fire for late deliveries from one branch to the main for proof capture for the outgoing Fed letter. He understood that there were unavoidable delays when picking up & delivering. If you want to see the real character of a man, wait until he is under pressure from both ends and can still be pleasant to all involved.
