Samuel McElroy Obituary

Samuel G. "SG" McElroy, 90, St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2018 at his home with his family at his side. He was a native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine, son of the late Samuel Grundy McElroy and his wife, Ernestine Willis. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during WW II. After his discharge from the Army "SG" worked as an aircraft mechanic for Fairchild Aviation, Grumman, and later as a civil service employee for the US Navy at NAS Jacksonville, retiring in 1997. SG also worked for Andrews Market, A&P grocery store, and also as a driver for the Sunshine Bus company. He was an avid turkey hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church/Turning Point at Calvary.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence McElroy, St. Augustine; daughter, Pamela Marie Weber (Donald), Palm Coast; sons, Lloyd Leon Carson(Elfre), Palm Coast, Samuel Keith McElroy(Shirley), New Bern, NC; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Cox, and a brother, Wenton W. Wallace.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday July 25, 2018 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Pastors Mark Conrad, Gregg Fischer and Tim Hall officiating. Interment services with military honors will follow at Craig Memorial Park, officiated by Dr. David Beauchamp.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday July 24, 2018 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully accepted or those wishing may a contribution in his memory to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32557 https://www.communityhospice.com

Mrs. McElroy, Pam and Lloyd: What a cute and precious man Mr. McElroy was! After all the pain you are feeling now will come the warmth of knowing these things. He had the sweetest smile and charming wit. I will remember all the time he spent with Pam and her cheerleading buddies. Pam had parents that you will always remember with loving memories.
