Walter Blackburn Obituary
Walt was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served as a rifle range instructor. He was married to Laura Blackburn who preceded him in death in 1996.
Survivors include his brother, Glenn Blackburn of Pittsburgh; daughters, Jennifer Pounds, Stephanie Butler, Susan Law and Michelle Browning; sons, Lance and Matthew Blackburn, 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of friends in St. Augustine.
Per his request, there will be no funeral service.
At Peace Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Stephanie,
Please find comfort in knowing that your father is in a far better place. Do not mourn for your loss, instead find peace in the many memories you created and enjoyed together. Those many hours you unselfishly gave to him and to your mother before her home going will now be returned to you two-fold as your memories are stimulated by such things as a touch, a scent, a sound, or the sight of a favorite color. May the whisper of a breeze always remind you of a blown kiss from the gate.
To Nikki and Autumn, We have been blessed by having wonderful Grandfathers and Great-Grandfathers. As we both share in our own time of grief we too must not look upon the loss but look to the memories we have. Our daughters are lucky to have known such great men. It is up to us to keep their memories alive and hand down the gifts we received from them to our own.
May we all live our lives with the dignity they have taught us.

God must have needed two very special people in heaven, so he sent his angel to memorial hospital for our dads. I picked up an inspirational card many years ago when my aunt died, even though its long I wanted to share it with you.
COMFORT FOR THOSE WHO MOURN
The great and sad mistake of many people, among them even pious persons, is to imagine that those whom death has taken leave us. They do not leave us. They remain!-Where are they? In darkness? Oh, no! It is we who are in darkness. We do not see them, nut they see us. Their eyes, radiate with glory, are fixed upon our eyes full of tears. Oh, infinite consolation!Though invisible to us, our dear dead are not absent.
I have often reflected upon the surest comfort for those who mourn. It is this: an firm faith in the real and continual presence of our loved ones; it is the clear and penetrating conviction that death has not destroyed them, nor carred them away. They are not even absent, but leaving near to usa, transfigured: having lost in their glorious change no delicacy of their souls, no tenderness of their hearts, nor especial preference in theire affection; on the contrary, having in depth and fervor of devotion, grown larger a hundredfold. Death is for the good, a translation into light, into power, into love. Those who on earth were only ordinary Christians become perfect; those who were beautiful become good;those who were good become sublime.
