George Dennis Bourland, 85. He was born April 23, 1940, in Amory, Mississippi to George W. Bourland and Reedy Meek Bourland. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son LTC Kenneth Dennis Bourland and granddaughter Isabella Christine and nephew Jamie Jordan. Dennis is survived by his devoted wife Adrienne and daughter Kellie Lynn and son-in-law Chris Hageman, grandsons Charley Bourland, Andrew Bourland, Chance Anderson, Grayson Hageman, Grant Evens, Parker Evens, Addison Evans and nephew David Jordan (Phyllis). Sister Dale Jordan and sister-in-law Pam Seals. Also, many grand nieces and nephews. After graduating Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, he served in the United States Air Force in several Communications Squadrons and the NORAD Control Center at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. After the service he was employed by Southern Bell and attended Jefferson State and UAB. His career in telephony spanned 30 years beginning as an Installer/Repairman. He was a Central Office Tech, taught in the training center and oversaw the installation of new technologies like voice mail and video calls. He volunteered for many hours representing the Telephone Pioneers of America. He retired from AT&T in 1996, volunteered at the Olympic Games Ocoee Venue and began consulting for many other "Bells" as well as private telephone companies. While working in Arizona for Navajo Communications he met a few of the Navajo Code Talkers who served in the Pacific during WWII. Dennis' generous and kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he knew. He loved being with his family, fishing, gardening, whitewater canoeing and camping. He spent many hours in the woods and trails with Boy Scout Troop 14 where he was on the Troop Committee. He was an excellent carpenter and woodworker. Dennis and Adrienne moved from Birmingham in 2001 after building their home in Cook Springs. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and lastly Cropwell Baptist Church. A visitation will be held for Dennis at Cropwell Baptist Church on Friday, August 22, beginning at 9:00am with a service to follow at 10:00am. He will be laid to rest in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL. The family wishes to thank all the team at Lakeside Hospice. They were so helpful in many ways. Dennis left us to be with Jesus Monday, August 18, 2025. He was at home with family and devoted hospice nurses.
