Imogene McClung Obituary

Mrs. Imogene (Jean) Edge McClung, 100, of Ragland, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, with her children at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, James McClung Sr., her parents, James and Katie Edge, and brothers, Roy Edge and Grady Edge. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Childress (Mike) and Susan Rinehart (Greg); son, Jim McClung Jr. (Robbie); grandchildren, Michelle Coleman (Jeff), Derek Childress (Angela), Katie Smith (Jeff), Emily Wycoff, and Tod Ferguson; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lovingly shared by granddaughter, Michelle Coleman: "Granny was born on March 6, 1925, in Ragland in her family home that sat on the same land where she currently lived. She graduated from Ragland High School and was one of 9 in her graduating class. She married my grandfather, the late J.W. McClung Sr., on July 25, 1945, when he returned from serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the railroad, and they raised their family in Birmingham until 2000. She was an active member of Roebuck Park Baptist Church and served there for many years. I can remember she and my grandfather taking care of a widow, as well as a disabled couple, for many years by doing repairs in their homes and meeting other needs they had. I also remember my granny volunteering with handicapped children by helping them at a facility where they did physical activities to gain strength in their arms and legs. Granny was an avid gardener, and they grew much of their own food. She grew it, canned it, froze it and prepared it. She was also a great seamstress and cake decorator. She made lots of birthday cakes, altered lots of clothing and made lots of Halloween costumes over the years. She also provided childcare for her grandchildren for many years. Granny and Granddaddy returned to Ragland in 2000 and built a home on her family homeplace. She is a member of Popes Chapel Church where she attended regularly and was, not surprisingly, their most senior member. Proverbs 31 speaks of a woman who fears the Lord, who is clothed in strength and dignity, who is wise and manages her household well. This scripture also states, "her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." This was my Granny." Funeral services for Mrs. McClung was held at Popes Chapel Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, with Bro. Jeff Sherrill officiating, followed by interment at Popes Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Popes Chapel Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1231 Pell City, Alabama 35125. Condolences may be offered online at www.usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City was in charge of arrangements.
