Harry Kulas
Galloway - Harry Michael Kulas, 95, of Galloway, Wisconsin, met his eternal reward on Thursday, June 25, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter in Plover, Wisconsin. He was the 5th of 14 children, born June 8, 1925 to John and Katherine (Goszkowicz) Kulas in Rosholt, Wisconsin. During his lifetime, Harry served his church, community and country. He entered the Army/Air Force on March 23, 1945. He served in Okinawa, Japan. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupational Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1946 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. On May 7, 2012, Harry was recognized for his service by going on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. He said, "That experience was a trip of a lifetime and one he will always cherish."
Harry married Evelyn Schulist on November 12, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Torun. After their marriage, the couple bought their first farm in Galloway, where they farmed until their retirement in 1990. In 1997, they sold their farms to their sons, Steve and Duane. In his last years, his family took care of him with the primary caretakers being his son, Jim and daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Gary Lepak. Harry taught CCD at his parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Joseph's Men's Society. He served as the assessor and town supervisor for the Town of Franzen. Harry helped establish and lead the 4-H Club in the Town of Franzen. He served on the Board of the Central Wisconsin Electric Coop. He was a member of Elderon Memorial Post VFW #8068 and served as their treasurer for many years. Harry could fix anything and had a strong compassion for animals. He did a lot of his own veterinary work on his farm and for neighbors. He also built many barns in the area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Harry and Evelyn had a huge garden which they shared with family and friends. He especially loved to can and share the fruit of his labor. Harry had a good sense of humor and always had a joke to tell.
Most important to Harry were his faith and family. Survivors include Harry and Evelyn's children, Gary (Marilyn) of Amherst Junction, James of Galloway, Phyllis (Ralph) Lepak of Stevens Point, Ken (Marlene) of West Bend, Teri (Gary) Lepak of Plover, Tom (Debbie) of Rosholt, Steve (Pat) of Wittenberg and Susan (Jeff) Karcheski of Plover; 41 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and their families; daughters-in-law, Valerie Kulas and Teri Kulas, both of Wittenberg. Harry is further survived by his brother, John (Corine) Kulas; sisters, Agnes Worzalla, Anna Kizewski, Mary Ann Riley, and Barbara (Frank) Konkol. Harry is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Jeff and Duane; grandson, William Kulas, and daughter-in-law, Mary (Schmidt) Kulas. He is further predeceased by his parents; his brothers and their spouses, Anton (Cecelia), Victor, Stanley (Rose), and Edward; sisters and their spouses, Elizabeth (Leo) Mlodik, Angeline Morton, Caroline (Alvin) Bronk and Margaret (Martin) Wierzba and brothers-in-law, Anton Worzalla, Robert Kizewski and Robert Riley.
The Kulas family will welcome visitors on Monday, June 29th from 4:00pm to 7:30pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:30pm. Social distancing will be practiced. Diocese guidelines currently limit the seating due to COVID. Therefore; a Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church on Tuesday. Fr. Augustine Bentil will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the Elderon Memorial Post #8068 VFW. The Mass will be live streamed on the Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 11AM.
