Joan C. Joerns

Joan C. Joerns, age 84, of 1636 Clark Street, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 due to complications from heart surgery.

Joan was born in Stevens Point on April 20, 1929, the daughter of late Frederick C. and Ruth (Jacobs) Joerns. She attended St. Stephen Grade School, graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School, and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Joan loved her family, St. Stephen Parish and the city of Stevens Point. She was extensively involved in several community activities and organizations, and served on a number of boards.

Joan's lighthearted nature was epitomized by the presence of a pink flamingo in a flower box above the front door of her home, which she dressed in varying costumes during the course of the year honoring a special event or season.

Joan's father, mother and a brother, Frederick (Freddy) preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Joerns) and Raymond D. Nass of Stevens Point; nephew, William C (Lisa), and their children, Emily and Thomas Nass of Des Peres, MO; nephew, Michael C., (Claire) and their children, Connor, Killeen, Elizabeth and Patrick Nass of Northbrook, IL; niece, Jane (Brian), and their children, Catherine, Molly and Charles Lavin of Edina, MN; niece, Susan (Scott), and their children, Sarah and Tatum Meisenheimer of Edina, MN; and nephew, Timothy (Allison), and their children, Louis, Olivia, Timothy, Jr. and Grace Nass of Wausau, WI.

Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home, Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm; concluding with prayer. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am, Monday, April 29th, at St. Stephen Catholic Church; preceded by visitation from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will take place in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to Operation Bootstrap.

I did not know Joan personally...but I am indeed saddened by her passing. I never failed to look at the "Pink Flamingo" in the flower box as we passed her always made me smile. Sending much sympathy to her family and friends...

I never met Joan but always looked for the flamingo in the flower box. When a day seemed rough, that little gesture by Joan always brightened my heart. I am sure I will continue to look at that window and remember her. God bless her and her family.
