Barry Berkowitz
1943 - 2021
On Monday, June 14, 2021, Barry Berkowitz of St. Helena, CA, beloved husband of Johanna (Jo) Myers Berkowitz, passed away peacefully after a battle with a rare cancer. He is survived by his brother, Art Berkowitz of Orange County, LA. Barry was born in Washington, DC and worked at the Government Printing Office on Capitol Hill. Barry married Jo on October 8, 1979, and the next day they moved to San Francisco, CA. In the mid-1980's Barry retired from the government and began his real estate career. He worked at First Marin Realty in Mill Valley/North Bay Market while living in Sausalito, CA. In 1991, Barry and Jo moved to Yountville. At that time, he began working for Arroyo Real Estate in St. Helena. And, in 2005, he went to work for St. Helena Real Estate. Barry specialized in the sale of high-end homes, estates, vineyards, wineries, and land sites. He has represented both buyers and sellers in all product types, with additional expertise in new construction and development sales. Barry's extensive network had made him one of the top producers in total dollar sales over the past 20 years in the Napa Valley. He was once named "Realtor to the Stars" in an article in the Wall Street Journal. He prided himself on finding the right home for his clients and making them happy. A private Memorial service will be held for Barry at the Grace Episcopal Church in St. Helena. A celebration of his life will be later by invitation only. Barry had a love for animals. Memorial donations in Barry's name can be made to We Care in St. Helena or Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch in Napa.

I was in real estate brokerage in Napa for 30 years and had many interactions with Barry. But more important, he had a love for Baja Mexico as did I. We rented/stayed at his condominium at La Jolla a number of times. He used our 1971 vw camper which we stored at the lot at his place. Barry was a colorful person, candid with his thoughts and ideas, honest and honorable in all of his dealings. I am glad we shared that love of Mexico and I value all of our interactions.
Best to his family, Charlie Bogue
