Foster, Andrew
Niskayuna, New York. Andrew Arthur Foster of Niskayuna died on December 1, 2022 at the McClellan Street Health Center after a lengthy illness. He was 89. He was born on December 21, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Albert Steere Foster and Lucia Valdes Foster; he was their sixth child in a family that would ultimately include nine children.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Lilian Jean (Beynon) Foster, he is survived by his brother and his sister-in-law, David and Joanna Foster, of Attleboro, Massachusetts; by his three children, David, of Bolton, Massachusetts; Ann, of Milton, Massachusetts; and John, of Albany, New York; by his daughter-in-law, Joan Marchese, of Bolton, Massachusetts; by his sister-in-law, Eileen Beynon, of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey; by two grandchildren, Owen Foster and Henry Foster; and by many nieces and nephews.
Andrew graduated from St. Louis University in 1956. After working all over the country, he settled in Niskayuna, where he and his family lived for 48 years. After nine years with the Hospital Association of New York State, Andy became the Director of Communications and Hospital Relations at Ellis Hospital. He retired in 1997.
He established Ellis's formal fund-raising division, executed its first advertising campaign, and was instrumental in securing the hospital's cardiac surgery program.
Andrew's friends and family admired his quick wit, his ease in the kitchen, and his devotion to his family, especially to his wife.
There will be a celebration of Andy's life in early March. For more information, please write to [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andrew's name to the American Heart Association or to Schenectady County's Meals on Wheels program.

We are very sorry for your sad loss. Andy was among a select group of our favorite patrons at the Niskayuna Library...always cheerful, funny, and an avid reader...we loved to suggest mysteries and thrillers to him...and then be treated to his reviews! He was fortunate in having a family he adored...especially Jean...and we were fortunate to know him.
