Appleby, Anne Harter
of Wildwood, MO passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2023 at the age of 69.
Anne lived a life in pursuit of great stories. Writing them for her news audiences, joyfully swapping tales with lifelong friends, but most of all, creating her own great stories through a life filled with adventure.
In her 35 years in the newspaper industry she covered everything from the Kentucky Derby to business briefs, local features, and much more. Her expertise as a writer and editor improved every department she found herself in. After several years with the Detroit Free Press, Anne returned to her hometown of St. Louis, where she took a position in the sports department at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on the recommendation of Mitch Albom and Bernie Miklasz.
However, Anne was best with the stories she created herself, with her limitless sense of adventure, her passion for exploring the world, and her love for bringing family and friends together for the grand events she frequently planned. Her travels with lifelong friends and her husband Darrell took her to six continents, dozens of countries, and 47 U.S. states. Life is for seizing new opportunities, experiences, and creating unforgettable moments, and in this regard, none lived it better than Anne.
Beloved wife of Darrell Appleby; loving mother to Sandy Tobik, Nancy (Daniel) Workman and Dan (Paige) Tobik; cherished sister of Art and Brian Harter; dearly beloved daughter of June and the late Art Harter; and dearest step-mother to Brooke Pagan and Lance Appleby.
Services: Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, July 7th with service to follow at 11 a.m. Both will be at Living Word Methodist Church, located at 17315 Manchester Rd, Wildwood, MO 63038. Luncheon provided after. If desired, contributions may be made to Equine-Assisted Therapy of Wildwood.

The holidays remind me of Anne. She was always so enthusiastic about celebrating and she gave the happiest, most eventful get togethers. She was a warm hostess, always making sure everyone was comfortable and engaged. Anne was a wonderful friend, a kind human being and I miss her sweetness and jest for life.

I´m so sorry to hear of the passing on Ms Anne, the mother of my dear friend Nancy! Nancy and I played college basketball together at DePauw, and became really good friends. I visited the Tobik home many times during those college years, and I remember nothing but laughs and great times with Anne! I´m going to miss her stories and how proud she was of her children. I will continue to keep all her family and friends in prayer.

I remember Anne so well as best friends with my sister, Barb, as kids while growing up. Anne's smile and laughter is the first thing that always comes to mind! From all of the things I've read about her life over the past years, and her spirit and her passions, I can tell why she was loved by all and will be truly missed by all.
My condolences to her mom and brothers especially because the Harters seemed like extended family while growing up. I know this has to be so hard for you. And my condolences to Darrell, and to her children and grandchildren for a person in their lives who I know was a great person and will be missed.

Tom & I have known Anne for 2 1/2 years as neighbors of Meadows Of Wildwood. We had so much fun together: bus trip to Maine w/ MOW friends, Mexican dinners, Billikens women soccer game, gatherings in the neighborhood, cards/games, walks and just hanging out on porches laughing & chats. Her love your people and animals was amazing, we will never for get her beautiful smile. She is already missed at MOW. We love you & Darrell!
