I fondly think of Uncle Berl who was a favorite uncle. His passion for trains & trolleys puzzled me as a kid, but gradually as I grew up I too became fascinated.

To the Family of Berl Katz:
May I express my deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Mr. Berl Katz.
I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Katz since I was six-years-old, because his children were my schoolmates at Epstein Hebrew Academy. We renewed our friendship when they became active in USY at Shaare Zedek (now part of Kol Rinah). I still maintain my special friendship with Judy and Johnathon. Mr. Katz was pleased that I continue to send emails to Johnathon on a regular basis.
Mr.Katz, a war veteran, told me that he married Joan on Valentine's Day when Mr. Katz was on furlough. This year, they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Mr. Katz spent his last Passover at Cedars of Town and Country (formerly JCA)where his wife could join him for seders and services. In his last conversation with me, he expressed the desire to go back home in peace.
For so many of us, his Memory will
always be for a blessing.
May you be comforted with mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Dear Aunt Joan & Family,
I was very sad to hear of Uncle Berl's passing. Although his health was in decline I was glad to hear that his last day was a good one.
I love and remember Uncle Berl for his wit and humor, and of course his love of trains. Clara & I sent our sympathy and regret that we cannot be with you today.
