Brockman Schumacher Obituary

Schumacher, Sr., Dr. Brockman 85 years, passed away at 7:26 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, of congestive heart failure. Born August 26, 1924, in St. Louis, to Fred and Marguerite Brockman Schumacher. WW II Army veteran; A vocational rehabilitation pioneer; Professor, Webster College 1966-67; Professor and Dir., Counselor Training, Rehabilitation Institute, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Ill. 1968 - 1993; Emeritus 1993-2009; B.S. in Psychology, U. of Iowa and Ph.D in clinical psychology, Washington U., St. Louis. President, Council on Rehabilitation Education; Vocational expert, Fed. Social Security Courts. Married to Doris Goodman, New York City, July 20, 1948; Celebrated 61 years together. Survived by his loving wife, three sons: Brockman Schumacher Jr. and wife, Nancy Zalusky-Berg, Minneapolis, MN; Andrew Schumacher and wife, Nancy Schumacher, San Anselmo, CA; and Douglass Schumacher and wife, Ruth Linehan, Upper Arlington, OH; four grandsons Brockman Schumacher III, Noah Schumacher, Jackson Schumacher, and Zachary Paul. Preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, and aunt, Dorothea Brockman, who raised him after his mother, Marguerite, died. Services: A private memorial is planned in Minneapolis.

Dr. Shumacher was my advisor in the Rehab. Counseling program in the early 1980's. I appreciated his knowledge and kindness. He taught me a great deal. May God bless you all.
