Vogt, Jr., Charles Henry
Charles Henry Vogt, Jr. of Bonita Springs, FL died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Gulf Shore Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL. He was 86. Mr. Vogt grew up in St. Louis, MO, graduated from Roosevelt High School and from the Univer- sity of Missouri School of Jour- nalism in Columbia, MO where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He joined the marketing firm Maritz Inc. in 1966 as a project manager, and worked his way up through numerous positions. He became president of Maritz Communications and later Maritz Diversified Operations. He was also executive VP of Maritz Travel and headed up Maritz International with Canada, UK and Mexico reporting to him. He retired from Maritz in 1996 as Executive Vice President, after 29 years of service.
He was a resident of Bonita Bay in Bonita Springs, FL and a club member since 1997. Previously, he was a member of Greenbriar Hills Country Club in Kirkwood, MO. An avid fan of both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Missouri Tigers, he loved golf, film, trivia and reading. He was a contributing columnist to the Bonita Bay magazine Bay Watch News.
For 10 years he volunteered at Pine Woods Elementary in Estero, FL as a reading tutor. He was also a volunteer with the Radio Reading Service for the Blind, for which he had a perfect voice. He served on the board for AMI Kids Big Cypress Wilderness Institute. He was a lifelong supporter of literacy and art programs. He valued staying teachable and enjoyed learning and sharing knowledge. As generous as he was funny, he used those qualities to make the world a more fun place.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane McConkey Vogt, and three children: John Vogt, Kurt (Lisa) Vogt and Kirsten (Brian) Rose. He leaves behind five grandchildren (Jake, Brendan, Allyson Vogt, Matthew and Meredith Rose), nieces Sally Hallums and Cathy Gamblin. He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Vogt Burton. He was a friend of Bill W. for 35 years.
Services: A memorial service will be held December 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the 24 Hour Club of Naples. A private service will be held at Bonita Bay Club in Bonita Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guadalupe Center (509 Hope Circle, Immokalee FL 34142), The St Vincent DePaul Society (4451 Mercantile Ave, Naples FL 34104) or a charity of your choice.
