Christopher Auffenberg Obituary

Auffenberg, Christopher

January 22, 1957 - November 17, 2025

Christopher "Chris" Auffenberg Sr. died unexpectedly on November 17. He was only 68 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Chris was born on January 22, 1957, to James and Barbara (nee Coppedge) Auffenberg.

Chris was the beloved husband of Patricia (nee Brauer) Auffenberg, beloved father to Christopher Jr., beloved brother to James Jr. (Ellen), Thomas (Dale), and Anne Rabenberg, beloved uncle to Claire (nee Auffenberg) Foehrkalb (Preston), Matthew (Rachel), Michael (Emily), Ryan (Anna), Greg (Carolyn), Elizabeth (nee Auffenberg) Hasebroock (David), David, Maggie, Timothy, and Ellie, beloved great uncle to Milo, Carter, Remy, Burke, Caleb, Jack, Albi, Conner, Myles, Graham, Daniel, Laine, Olivia, Alice, Grace, and Sydney, beloved cousin to numerous cousins, and beloved nephew to Aunt Sharon Auffenberg. Chris is preceded in death by his parents James and Barbara Auffenberg, his brother, Joseph M. Auffenberg, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Chris graduated from Chaminade High School in 1975 and Santa Clara University in 1979. He followed in his father's footsteps and spent his career in the automobile business as the owner of multiple dealerships. Chris was recognized as a leader in the automotive industry and received many awards including the prestigious Ford and Lincoln President's Award- not just once, but many times.

Chris worked very hard but he also played very hard and he held his family and friends most dear. He cherished the time he spent with his son Christopher Jr.- traveling, attending events, and just hanging out. Chris loved golfing, boating, sports, traveling and having fun with his family and friends. He was known as "Mr. Fun" by those closest to him and he will be sorely missed. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. Whether you were a close friend or someone he had just met, Chris always greeted everyone with a smile, a welcoming handshake, and a joke.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 4 pm until 8 pm at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road in Kirkwood. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 am at Immacolata Catholic Church, 8900 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Louis Arc - Joe Auffenberg Fund.

I met Chris when we were in 7th grade. He was the kindest person I knew then and knew now. Always met you with a smile and had a great way of making you feel like the only one
there.
First person to call you when you were dealing with an illness, celebration or loss of a family member,or just to check in. Very few times in life do you meet such a warm, caring human being. We just lost our Dad in August and one of the first text was from Chris. He even checked in a month later to see how I was doing. My last conversation was the week before we all lost this beautiful soul, as he was looking for a new housekeeper, thought I would know one. I am so happy we got to catch up. So grateful for 55 years of friendship. Sending healing prayers to all who loved him.. Melinda Schmitt Hagedorn

Chris graduated from Chaminade on the 25th anniversary of my own graduation. I wish I'd accomplished the smallest fraction of what he's done in the years since.
