Aunt Clara, my great aunt, was wonderful to my parents and siblings and to me during the summers I spent at her house as a teen.

I met Clara Oelrich through the Home-Delivered Meal Program at PSOP. I delivered her meals-on-wheels Monday through Friday for a couple of years. After I worked in the office of the nutrition program I still occasionally saw her when I would fill in for a volunteer. She and I talked about everything! She was very interested in what went on in the world which made her an interesting person to talk to. We had some friends in common because of church and other connections. I looked forward to getting to her house so we could discuss news events, neighborhood happenings, etc. She was such a straightforward person, (I would never have asked for her opinion if I didn't want to hear it!) I missed seeing her after she wasn't in her home anymore.

I met Miss Clara once, after I purchased the house she shared with her husband for so many years. What a lovely, gracious woman! Miss Clara shared many stories going back to the time she and Ernie bought the house, how her nieces and nephews stayed with her on frequent visits (and were frightened by the apples that fell onto the awning in the middle of the night), the neighborhood cat that wondered in and out of the basement window - just to name a few. It was evident from the first time I set foot on the frontstep that it was not just a house, but a well-loved home. During our visit, she was pleased to learn that my three daughters loved her home, that there was a baby (my grandson) in the house and that I had cats. She enjoyed seeing pictures of her house - happy that her old stove was still there, and surprised I had kept her wringer washer. All who come to my home, affectionately known as "Miss Clara's House", have heard the stories passed on to me. I am thankful that I had the priveilege to get meet and spend some time with such a lovely lady.
