I was a co-worker of Doug's at Mallinckrodt in the late 1970's, and early 1980's. Our job was to make actionable plans from vague information. This was frustrating and thankless. Yet, Doug was able to accomplish his responsibilities while maintaining his temperament. Doug was a knowledgeable "go-to" person for other workers. He had a good demeanor, and will always be remembered for this. He didn't deserve the health affliction that came late in life, and he left us way too soon.

Doug was a good, kind man and a great neighbor. The love and care his children brought in his time of need speaks to what a wonderful parent he was.

Doug's contagious smile & twinkle in his eye put each of us at ease. Our good fortune allowed us to call him our friend.

For those of us who include Doug as family, it was an honor and privilege to grow up living near enough for us cousins to trade places during the summer months. Doug and Diana would come to our farm for a week and my siblings and I would visit Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Jim in the City of Chicago for a week. It was good to grow up knowing Doug. Our families managed to have a few reunions during our adult lives. Doug was always in for wherever and whenever with a smile and a laugh. He was a gracious host and a gentle spirit and he leaves a large gap in our family circle. God Bless his family! -Renee Axtell, Las Cruces, NM

A heartfelt smile; a kind word; a willing hand; a neighborly greeting.
A gentle and unassuming man who will be deeply missed by all of us who had the good fortune to cross his path.

It was such a pleasure to be Doug and his family's neighbor. He was always ready to converse and gather for neighborhood get togethers or just "over the fence" He was a true inspiration to Melissa and Andy.

Doug was a treasure to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle spirit and kindness were truly evident. Though we know you will miss him so much Melisa and Andy, we hope you find comfort in knowing that you both were such loyal, supportive kids and he was always so proud of you! We send love and sympathy to you and the rest of Doug's family.
