Ed, a dear friend and inspirational teacher to us for many years. Our love and gratitude is extended to Marie and family.Bev. and Dick Larson. Yakima, Washington

Both of us were student assistants in Theology at Valparaiso U including years when Ed was chair of the department. As students we were at first annoyed but still learned from his sharp wit and then took to heart his insistent injunctions to think and write better. Had any of us had funds, Jim hoped Ed might preach and attend at his ordination in Florida (ancient times, 1972). Didn't happen but it was enough to have wanted that sharing. Later as yokefellows in professions in church and academe, St. Louis and beyond, we benefited from Ed and Marie's modeling of family, church, scholarship, work ethic, and mission-mindedness. Schroeder Stories abound that we revel in repeating. Thanks be to God for the Spirit's work in Ed, overflowing still to us and so many.

Friend Ed has now joined "the Late J.C." (as he used to teach) in eternity. Having shared with Ed since we washed dishes together in VU's cafeteria, I have often felt him to be a cousin or brother tho we're not related. May His peace be with Marie and family.
