Eugene (Gene) Christian Eichhorn, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on September 2nd peacefully at the age of 97 with his family by his side. Born in St. Louis to Felicitas and Christian Eichhorn, Gene was the cherished brother of Jan (Ferguson) and Arlene (Sr. Rebecca Eichhorn), and brother-in-law to Sylvia Eichhorn. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard, brother-in-law Ed Ferguson and grandson Peter. He was loved by his many cousins, nieces and nephews and was a dear friend to everyone he ever met.
Gene shared a loving marriage for 58 years with his late wife, Mary Jane (Burrows), with whom he built a family rooted in faith, service, and devotion. Together they raised four children Jean Marie Regan (Mickey), Donna Higgins (Kevin), Gerald Eichhorn (Debbie), and David Eichhorn (Kate). He was the proud grandfather of Patrick Regan (Tricia), Samantha (Dylan), Libby, Abby, Sophia, Henry, and Jillian, and great-grandfather of Mats and Calvin Regan.
After serving honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, Gene devoted his life to faith and community. He was a long-time and devoted parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He found great purpose serving others and volunteered with great enthusiasm for many organizations, most notably on behalf of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. His life embodied optimism, humility, kindness, and gratitude, summed up in his oft-repeated phrase: "We are so blessed."
Those who knew Gene will remember his quiet strength, deep devotion to family, and unwavering faith. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortune to know and love him.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church (South St. Louis), 4924 Bancroft, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial.
