Horner, Evelyn Bissell Evelyn Bissell Horner, age 96, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2013 surrounded by her beloved family. She was born September 26, 1916 to Daniel R. and Winter C. Bissell. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Richard W. Horner, and is the mother of Daniel B. Horner (Susan), Wesley W. Horner (Susan) (the late Phyliss Riley Horner), Douglass D. Horner who preceded her in death (Karen Hempstead), and Deborah H. Dieffenbach (Jeffrey). She is the great, great granddaughter of General Daniel Bissell who built the Bissell House on Bellefontaine Rd., now a St. Louis County park. She was the loving grandmother of 8 and 7 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Daniel R. Bissell, the late Beverly Bissell Kalish and the late Martha Bissell Israel. Eve graduated from University City High School and attended Washington University where she was a member of her beloved Pi Beta Phi sorority. Eve was active in volunteer and community activities. She is a past president of Planned Parenthood Midwest region, and remained active in the organization for over 50 years. She remained active with the Pi Phis and their Sign of the Arrow facility. She was a member of Ladue Chapel since 1955, and active in the Ladue Chapel Women's Association. She was active in the Landmarks Association and delivered Meals on Wheels to shut-ins for many years. She will be missed by her many friends in the community. She was the loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to her large extended family and treasured the time all were together, making sure everyone enjoyed themselves. The family is grateful for the wonderful care she received from St. Luke's Hospice and the Angels on Duty organization. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church, 9450 Clayton Rd., Ladue, on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. Private inurnment Bellefontaine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ladue Chapel Womens Association, or the Douglass D. Horner Pediatric Hospice Fund, c/o Janice Baily, One Children's Place, St. Louis, MO 63110.
