Francis Canepa Obituary

Canepa, Francis John Jr. Jack Monday, February 6, 2017, one day after his 90th birthday. He is survived by his children Allya Francesca Canepa and Adam Kevin Canepa; granddaughters Bella and Lauren Canepa; brothers Robert Canepa and Joseph (Flo) Canepa; dear friends Tino Trova and Ferd Lang; long-time companion Robyn Hanser. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Gross. Jack graduated from St. Louis University High School and attended Washington University. His college career was interrupted from 1950-1952 by an Army stint in Korea and Japan. Upon his return, Jack made a commitment to pursue art professionally and enrolled at the University of Denver where he received a B.F.A. and M.A. in painting. In the 1960s he lived in Paris, London, and New York before returning to St. Louis. He was on the faculty at Webster University from 1971 until his retirement in 1994 with the title of Professor. Services: Celebration of Jack's life was private. In lieu of flowers, donations to PBS Channel 9 Network or St. Louis Public Radio would be appreciated.

I was his student from 1976 -1980.
He defined my art education. If I could have had every art class with him and even more, that would have made me supremely educated.
He was truly erudite.
