Gary O'Grady Obituary

O'Grady, Gary

Gary Leo O'Grady, 88, of St. Louis, MO, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 27, 1936, in Iowa City, IA, Gary grew up in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1954. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955–1959 as an aviation electronics technician before earning degrees from St. Louis University and New York University.

In 1965, he married the love of his life, Martha "Martie" Holloran, and together they built a family of five children-Sean (Jan), Joe (Christina), Meghan (Jim), Tim (Christine), and Kevin (Erin). Their family grew to include ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him endless joy.

Gary spent 17 years with J.C. Penney, followed by a career in small business and community service. He was deeply committed to his Catholic faith, serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter's Parish and volunteering as a mentor through SCORE.

Above all, Gary treasured family gatherings-especially the annual vacations at the Lake of the Ozarks-and celebrating 58 years of marriage with Martie, his greatest blessing. He will be remembered for his faith, work ethic, and devotion to family.

Visitation Friday, September 26, 10:00 am, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Kirkwood, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30. Interment, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
