Chopp, George J. (95) of St. Louis, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024. Loving and devoted husband of Geraldine (Gerry) Chopp, dear father and father-in-law of Peggy, David, Carol (Marc), Kevin, Roger (Leslie), Michael (Caren), dear grandfather of Elise (Tyler), Christopher (Jessica), Caroline (Christopher), Ryan (fiancee' Sidnye), Nicholas, Brennan, and Lauren. Treasured great-grandfather to Margaret, Lydia, Dominic, Bennett, and Emilia. Beloved brother and brother-in-law to the late Mary, Dorothy (John), and Charles. Dearest uncle, great-uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend to many.
Mr. Chopp was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and graduated from the University of Notre Dame. In 1993 he retired from a career as Senior Vice President of General Dynamics Corp. In retirement he enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, reading, and above all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
His greatest joy was his 71-year marriage with Gerry and the family they raised together. Mr. Chopp will be remembered for his devout faith, quick wit, and his boundless generosity.
Services: A celebration of life Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 1510 Bopp Road, Des Peres, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Clement of Rome School or Church.
