Dearest Barbara, Jeffrey and Kimberly,
By way of introduction, Mary and I are from General Dynamics (then Information Spectrum) and worked NAVAIR F/A- 18 issues with Gerry and Linda Mushrush. Later Mary and I moved on to different capacities, we carried fond memories of Gerry's mentoring, professionalism, and ever keeled temperament.
Its my personal experience that anecdotes ofter cushion grief at a time of loss. With that in mind, I'd like to share the following.
During one of our many meetings in Crystal City, VA Gerry and I took a break outside. It was my first time to meet him; In an effort to know Gerry, I asked where he was from orginally, he replied "Rockford, IL." I offered a surprised "Really;" and he came back with a cautious, almost inquisitive "Yes?"
After a few moments looking at the sky-line, I pressed ahead and inquired, "What high scholl did you go to?" again cautiously Gerry said, "Guilford High."
Again, silence, and I am thinking that this fella isn't making it very easy to get to know him.
So I add, "I attended Auburn Senior High School on the West side."
Finally, we started talking and after a while Gerry offered that at first, he thought someone told me where he was from and set him up for some sort of pratical joke.
We both got a chuckle out of that.
Some time later before I was to leave the program, Gerry, Mary and I met for dinner in Old Towne Alexandria. Ever the gentleman, he told Mary that the my contributions were going to be missed. Very "Wellmanly" (gentlemanly) of Gerry, as usual.
Take comfort, and offer the same to your entire family by remembering Psalm 34:18-19.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescuses those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time."
Barbara, Mary and I extend our sincerest condolences to you and your family.
We wish you all Godspeed.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and the entire Wellman family. I worked with Jerry many years ago at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a great co-worker. He will be missed by all who knew him.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Jerry was one of my many boss's here at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing, and it was always a pleasure. I am sure there are many here that hold fond memories.

It is difficult to tell how deeply I feel about Mr. Wellman’s death. What started many years ago as a professional relationship between Jerry and me quickly became a worm friendship. It was a privilege to have known Jerry so well, and I will never forget his thoughtfulness, kindness, and his good sense of humor. With great personal sorrow, I share with his family this loss and extend my heartfelt sympathy.

Gerry introduced me to retrofit and my early days with McDonnell Douglas. He provided a wealth of knowledge and insight to a young, new hire.
