Harry Schukar Obituary

Schukar, Harry T. Buzzie passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Barbara Lipson Schukar; dear father of Susan (Gregg) Berdy, Kathryn (Terry) Bader and Douglas (Laura) Schukar; dear grandfather of Andrew (Stephanie) Berdy, Emily (Robert) Huekler, Samuel and Jeffrey Bader, and Davis and Brooke Schukar; and great friend to many. He is the brother of the late Louis M. (the late Lynn and Ricki) Schukar and son of the late Samuel and Dorothy Becker Schukar. He is a graduate of Soldan High School (class of 1951) and of Washington University (class of 1955), where he graduated with a B.S.B.A. in Business Administration, was a President of the Student Senate and reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the R.O.T.C. He was also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, a men's honorary society and was elected to Thurtene, an honorary committee. His commitment to Washington University continued as a life-long member of the Elliot Society. Buzzie had a long and distinguished career in the jewelry industry, culminating in the position of President of the Loose Diamond Division of industry leader, Harry Winston, and was a longstanding member of the prestigious 24 Karat Club in New York City and Dallas. Buzzie passionately committed himself to numerous Jewish causes throughout his life. He held board positions with Jewish Hospital, the Jewish Center for the Aged, Jewish Federation (where he helped establish the Leadership Development Council), United Hebrew Synagogue, American Jewish Committee, Temple Israel, the Jewish Light and many more. Buzzie was a President of Westwood Country Club and served as a member of the Board of the Fox Associates Foundation. Services: Visitation at TEMPLE EMANUEL CHAPEL, 12166 Conway Road, Creve Coeur, Mo. on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. The family requests that memorials be made to the Foundation for Barnes Jewish Hospital, Schukar Emergency Room Endowed Fund to 1001 Highlands Plaza Drive West, Suite 140, St. Louis, MO 63110 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Buzzie was a longtime friend of my Dad, Bernard along with Walter Kahn. We were all members of the 24Kt Club of New York. He always had kind words and advice for me as a young jewelery manufacturer. I will miss his presence.
