John, you were always an inspiration to me for your knowledge and your kindness. I remember the rounds of golf at Bogey Hills Country Club and the card games in your lower level famly room. I especially remember the Christmas and other holidays you, Marcene and your four children hosted for our wonderfully large family in your beautiful home. The way you welcomed everyone into your home as your own children, brothers and sisters was in itself the greatest gift. You always had that simple, loving nature of a boy from small-town Missouri, yet the sophistication and stature of a world diplomat. You and Marcene welcomed me into your home to stay for six months while I was having a house built in St. Peters in my first move away from home in St. Joseph where I grew up, and I thank you again deeply for that. Your life was filled with hundreds, no, I imagine thousands of friends and family in all. I look up to the sky right now and smile knowing you are sitting beside Jesus and God sharing the joy of your life on earth. You will be greatly missed John, but in a joyful way to have known you and been a part of your extended family. Thank you for everything. Your 2nd cousin once removed. Mark Watkins

He listen to the whisper
from an angel way up high

as he gave a final sigh.

John, I will always remember you as a kind and giving man to both family and friends. I enjoyed the many hours we spent at the driving range and playing golf together; the football, baseball, hockey games, and golf matches we watched together; our fishing trips to Lake Wappapello and Thomas Hill Reservoir; introducing me to canoeing Missouri Rivers and the many float trips we took together on the Current River; dining as your guest in some of the best restaurants in St. Louis; being invited for dinner and parties at Bogey Hills Country Club; giving me a personalized tour of Boeing’s St. Charles Missile Plant; the stories you related from your Navy enlistment; the movies and holiday meals we shared; and the kindness you always showed to my family and close personal friends. You were always there offering your help whenever I needed assistance. You lived a life many people strive to achieve. I will certainly miss you. God bless you John.
