Sixty one years ago on Nov. 28, 1959 St. Louis Univerity defeated the University of Bridgeport, 5-2 in Storrs, CT to win the very first NCAA soccer championship. Little did we know at the time what a legacy that one game would begin to foster but with a team led by Jack Dueker why would anyone doubt that exact possibility. For an entire generation of young players who watched SLU games on a regular basis the name Dueker would always conjure up images of soccer excellence......and it still does. We'll always remember Jack Dueker and always with a smile. The Dueker family can be assured he has a permanent place in our memories.

My sincere, heartfelt condolences to the Dueker Family on the passing of a true soccer icon here in St. Louis, Jack Dueker. For an entire generation of us as players there is no memory to compare going to Fairgrounds Park to watch St. Louis University and Jack Dueker. Just the name conjures up an image of soccer royalty here in St. Louis. First Traina, then Pelizzaro and now Dueker - that team can play anybody. It's up to us to remember and honor his memory.

My family never had the pleasure of meeting Jack but we know his grandson Tyler through hockey; Tyler scored four goals the night Jack passed, it was a special moment. Based on Tyler's character alone, we know Jack's legacy is strong and we are thankful for his service and contributions to our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.
