Jonathan Gilbert "Jon" Epstein
Epstein, Jonathan Gilbert Jon February 15, 2019. Jon, the most humble giant, tremendous leader, beloved husband and dear friend to so many, 63, passed away from heart failure at his home in St. Louis, Missouri. Jon was born on March 29th 1955 in Hartford, CT. He was married to the love of his life Carol for 33 years, who was his best friend in the world. Jon was the Fila North American President and Global Chief Commercial Officer. Jon's life was a living example of a Mentch, who cared so deeply for all his employees, his friends and his family. His benevolence and philanthropy was prolific, unassuming and often under the radar. He believed deeply in the triumph of the human spirit. He was optimistic, resilient, a visionary, a mentor, and a driven leader. Jon was selfless and he always was helping others. Jon and Carol were actively involved in numerous charities and institutions, most notable the John McDonnell International Scholars program at Washington University, as well as the funding of the Carol J. Epstein Scholarship at University College, which over the years has benefited many low income women. Jon was the wind underneath Carol's wings to encourage and support all of her interests and personal endeavors. He smiled the brightest in his quiet time with Carol and going on long walks with his puppy Sailor. Jon was predeceased by his father Isaac and his in-laws Lenore and Collins Butler. He leaves behind his wife Carol, his mother Norma, sister and brother Ginny and David, his brotherin-law Marshall, his brother-in-law Robert and his sister-in-law Janet and her husband Mark, as well as nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, who all came under the spell of Jon's charm, enthusiasm and spirit for life. A reminder like this one will definitely change the course of ones thinking for the day and beyond and I embrace it. So many tremendous memories. Jon played an enormous part in my life in too many ways to list here. I take solace in the knowledge he knew that, we knew that.... how... that look he would give you with that sparkle in his eye and that sly little grin... love and miss the man...

My deepest condolences to Carol and the Epstein family. Jon was a legend in his own time. He made a difference in the world by touching so many lives. Jon had the ability to do the impossible, and made you believe that you could too. He was passionate and loved life. But most of all, he loved you Carol. Sending much love. Carol, there are no words to express my deepest sympathy or to explain why we are led to paths unknown. What we do know is, we are given the gift of being able to create memories and then a mind to store them...You two created so many beautiful memories that now, somehow, will give you the strength to get through this painful and devastating time. Griffey, Lily and the numerous others, have greeted him and are now your forever angels. Let them lead you back to the main road of strength where the love of friends and family surround you. You are in my prayers even though the miles keep me from coming. Love you girl

Jon had a generous nature and presented a stellar model of how to remember and care for others, even amid the daily complexities and time crunches he faced at his impressive level of personal success. Every time the McDonnell Academy Scholars visited New York from Washington University for leadership training, Jon warmly welcomed them to Fila USA's offices and gave them a thorough introduction to Fila and how to tackle the challenges of a large and growing business. Jon and Carol have always been a great team, looking for--and finding--ways to help others, extend opportunities for education to the less fortunate, respect other cultures, and provide much needed assistance to dogs and other animals who in their way teach us what is most important.
