Julia Mather "Julie" Schnuck
Schnuck, Julia Julie Mather Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. Beloved wife of Scott C. Schnuck, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at the age of 68. She was the devoted mother of Scott Mather Matt (Nancy Kohn), Jason Michael (Carrie Carlson) and Thomas Galvin (Natalie McNulty) and loving grandmother Birdie of Oscar, Sam, Oliver and Madeline. She is also survived by her cherished mother, Marie Mather, and sister, Monica Smith of San Diego, and her niece Liz Legg. She was preceded in death by her beloved father Claire Mather. Julie was born in Franklinville, NY, and graduated from Cornell University, where she met Scott. The couple lived in New York and Palo Alto before moving to St. Louis in 1975 when Scott joined his family's business, Schnuck Markets. Everyone who knew Julie loved her for her quick wit and personality and also respected her keen business sense. Julie loved to play golf, especially with Scott and their three boys. Julie was founding co-president of the St. Louis Archdiocese Foundation for Special Education, member of the St. Louis Garden Club, and a valued partner to the Schnucks floral department. Her greatest passion was her love of birds. Julie was on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Administrative Advisory Board and enjoyed birding trips to Costa Rica, Texas, Louisiana and Arizona. Julie was actively involved with the creation of the Audubon Center at Riverlands in West Alton, MO, and was the first president of the advisory board for Riverlands. Following her diagnosis of a glioblastoma brain tumor in the Spring 2015, Julie boldly agreed to be Patient 1 in a personalized, revolutionary immune vaccine approach to fight incurable brain tumors. Julie and Scott helped launch the Julia M. Schnuck Personalized Immune Vaccine Trial at Washington University with a $2 million lead gift, and also secured an additional $1.3 million in support. Julie's family is grateful to her wonderful caregivers: Sterla, Pedra, Brittany and Ashley for their loving care during Julie's fight. Thanks also to Bonnie, Nicki and Ted for their loving support. And special thanks to Julie's best friend, Loraine Budke, who was with her most every day of her journey. Services: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Balsilica of St. Louis, Lindell at Newstead, on Friday, March 10, at 10 am. Following the Mass, a reception with the family will be held at Bellerive Country Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Julie may be made to Washington University, Department of Neuro SurgeryGlioblastoma Research, 7425 Forsyth, Suite 2100, St. Louis, MO, 63105, or to the Julie Schnuck Center for Avian Monitoring Ecology at the Audubon Center at Riverlands (www.riverlands.org) or 301 Riverlands Way, West Alton, MO, 63386. this time of sorrow. Valerie and Tom Eggers

I just read of Julie's death in the Cornell Alumni news, and want to express my sorrow to her family. Julie was my roommate at Cornell and stood up with me at my wedding in 1969. I lost touch after college, but always hoped to see her again someday. Time is precious and I regret not making an effort while I could. I am so sorry for your family's loss. Dear Scott,
My dad (Jim Barry) and I extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Some of my fondest memories of working at Bellerieve were caddying for you and Julie, especially in the various tournaments that brought out her competitive fire. 20 years later, and I can still remember how some of those matches went down. She always had a smile on her face and made my day any time I had the pleasure of being in her company. She will be missed dearly.
God's blessings,
Tom Barry and Jim Barry

Scott,
Dotty and I were deeply saddened to hear of Julie's illness in the Washington University Article but had hope to see a cure. You and Julie's support to find a cure will undoubtedly help many in the future. It was obvious to all that were around you over the years how much you loved Julie and how much you will miss her. She was a wonderful person in all respects. Please accept our deepest condolences in your loss. Julie will always be in our hearts and prayers.

I had the wonderful privilege of forming a special friendship with Julie while growing up on East Bodley. Julie was SUCH a warm, welcoming woman. I was just barely a middle schooler, and I always looked forward to going over and hanging out and chatting with her, she was always fun to talk to and hang out with even for a kid my age. I had my first babysitting jobs with Matt and Jason (she was SO brave) and I will NEVER forget her having me come up and watch the Royal Wedding Of Charles and Diana,( which she got up in the wee hours to record) that is something I will NEVER forget! I was so surprised and saddened when I heard of her passing. I will never ever forget Julie, her warmth and kindness and her young spirit. She will forever hold a special place in my memories and my heart. My deepest Sympathies to the family on such a tremendous loss of such a beautiful soul. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers, Julie was one of a kind and will be terribly missed by all who had the wonderful gift of knowing her.

Much Love, and tears,
