Kay Karras Obituary

Karras, Kay Margaret Kay Margaret Karras died of cancer on August 18, 2015, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 54. Kay was the daughter of Frieda M. Karras (née Tsichlis) and the late Peter C. Karras, and the sister of Valerie A. and Denise M. Karras. She was very much loved by them, by her goddaughters, Christina Tsichlis and Anastasia (Cia) Harwood, her uncle Sam Clutch, and by numerous cousins, friends, colleagues, and fellow choir members and parishioners. Kay Karras graduated from Hazelwood East High School in 1979 and from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1983 with a degree in psychology. She then completed three years of graduate studies in clinical psychology at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, before returning to the St. Louis area, where Kay began working at Bellefontaine Habilitation Center. She quickly became a psychologist there and worked at Bellefontaine until her retirement on June 30. Kay was an active and dedicated member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She loved to sing in the choir and formerly directed the parish's junior choir. Kay always served as a cashier during St. Nicholas's annual Labor Day weekend Greek festival, and she very generously and often anonymously donated her money, time, and talents to the parish as well as to such groups as International Orthodox Christian Charities and Focus Gateway City. Services: A visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 21, from 9:00 to 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63108 (validated parking in the BJC Garage, entrance on Laclede between Kingshighway and Euclid), followed immediately at 11:00 am by the funeral, also at the church, and then burial at St. Matthew Cemetery, 4316 Bates, St. Louis, Missouri 63116. Those who wish to may, in lieu of flowers, send donations to International Orthodox Christian Charities (www.iocc.org). Condolences may be submitted online at www.luptonchapel.com. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and other staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Siteman Cancer Center for their care and caring throughout Kay's illness.
