Hamilton, Lisa
Lisa Jane Pettus Hamilton died peacefully July 15 in Solana Beach, California after a short illness. As she had wished she was in her home looking out at the lagoon, her favorite view.
Born in St. Louis on January 3, 1944, she was the oldest daughter of Jane Winter Pettus and James T Pettus, Jr. She was predeceased by her mother, her father, and a half-sister Ruth Pettus. She is survived by her sister Josephine Pettus Wiseman (W.P. "Buck") of Pewee Valley, Kentucky, her son, Samual William Hamilton (Ange) and granddaughter Brighton Christina Hamilton of Reno, Nevada, her two granddaughters Mary Champeney and Margaret Champney Gamez (Brian) of Sacramento, California, her half-sister Katherine Pettus of Chinchon, Spain, whose care made it possible for Lisa to spend her last months as she wanted, and half-brother William Pettus of San Francisco, California, who made several trips to help with her care. Also survived by half-brother Winston Pettus of Ireland and half-sister Rachael Pettus of Cyprus.
Lisa was a graduate of Mary Institute and Jackson College Tufts University. She also earned a master's degree in communications from Boston University and a degree in aircraft mechanics from East Coast Aero Tech. In recent years, a lot of her time was devoted to researching worthy grantees in her role as the family trustee for The Pettus Foundation. It meant a great deal to her to be able to help whenever she could.
A memorial service is planned at St Peter's Episcopal Church on November 7.
