Cousins are special because of our shared childhood memories and dreams we share with each other. Cousins are life's treasure forever.

Louis Oldani (Sonny to family) was particular remembered by me and my husband Norm because he married us at St Louis University Lower College Church in 1969. Sonny was such a wonderful writer and thinker and he made our wedding very memorable. My husband went to Rockhurst for two years and when we went there for visits we would find Sonny and have a great visit. I also remember him so well from family gatherings, always a smile on his face and I always had an interesting conversation with him. We continued to see Sonny in his later years when he lived at SLU campus and sometimes both of us attended Monthly First Friday Mass in Griesidieck Hall, which had become a dormitory for retired Jesuits. Again, always smiling and always engaging. My last memory of Sonny was at his sister's Jubilee Ceremony as a Daughter of Charity. I am so glad I was able to see him there and again have a wonderful conversation. He is one of my life Treasures. My condolences to his sister, Sr. Josephine (Glo), and the Vivian Family in California and to all of the cousins who will miss him like I will. May he rest in peace with family and friends who died before him. We will miss him.

The family name for Fr. Oldani was Sonny. (After he was ordained, we'd jokingly call him Father Sonny. When I think of Sonny, I see his smiling face. He never frowned or looked sad. From childhood and throughout his life, whenever we met--at a family gathering or a run-in on the SLU campus--his greeting began with a smile and a light in his eyes. The last time I saw Sonny was in a crowded chapel for a Jubilee celebration for the St. Louis Daughters of Charity. I turned and happened to see Sonny in the distance. His bright smile caught my attention, and the animation on his face increased as the speaker's words focused on Sr. Josephine (his dear sister Gloria).
Also remarkable was how Sonny could gracefully steer a mundane conversation to something humorous, interesting, or clever--never prideful or calling attention to his many gifts. My husband Peter would brighten when seeing Sonny at a social gathering. He anticipated a warm welcome and lively conversation. Peter told me he was never disappointed.

May Father Louis Oldani, our dear Cousin Sonny, smile in the company of angels and saints.
