Marjory Russell Obituary

Russell, Marjory May Hopkins

April 22, 1927 - December 4, 2024

Marjory May Hopkins Russell of St. Louis passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2024 at the age of 97. Born April 22, 1927 of Edward and Edmee Hopkins of St. Louis. Marjory attended John Burroughs High School and then graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in psychology in 1948. She married James E Russell later that same year.

While raising her 3 children, Marjory volunteered at many charitable organizations including Junior Kindergarten, her church, Meals on Wheels, Scouts, Reproductive Health Services, the Food Bank, and the St. Louis Zoo. She trained to become a medical historian and worked for St. Luke's Hospital and also participated in several health studies. She enjoyed reading, traveling with family, animals, especially cats and birds, and playing games with friends and family. Marjory embodied kindness & grace and will be missed by her many friends, who shared bridge and other games with her as well as deep friendships.

She was the beloved wife for 66 years of her late husband James E. Russell; loving mother of (Sharon) Lea Langdon (Dennis), the late Donald Russell, and the late Scott Russell (survived by Deborah); dear grandmother of Robin Perrtree (Frank Unger), Alex Perry (Courtney), Kalani McElwee (Aaron), Erin Langdon, the late Daniel H. Russell, & Margaret Russell (Oliver Lagman); dear great-grandmother of Rylee Boyd, Isabel & Violet Perry, Nora Perrtree, Zachary Unger, Addilyn & Max McElwee; dear sister of the late Edward Hopkins & late Jean Hopkins Meinberg; dear aunt of Michael Gallagher, the late Stephen Meinberg, John Hopkins (Chantal), David Hopkins (Maggie), & Stephanie Barton (Randy).

Marjory was always generous toward those in our world who are less fortunate, and cared deeply about our earth as well. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

A reception to celebrate Marjory's life will take place in Club West at The Gatesworth, One McKnight Place, on February 16, 2025, 2-4 p.m.
