I had served with a Mark Tychnoviech starting in July of 1972 at Fort Ord, CA. We were in the same basic training unit.

We hung out with each other a lot. He had family (an aunt and uncle as I recall) in Oakland they we went to visit one weekend. Another weekend, we ventured into to Haight-Ashbury, in dress uniform. We went into a small coffee shop where some young folks were singing anti war songs. We were treated with a great amount of respect. It seems they were protesting the war, but felt soldiers were decent people. The photo sure looks like him, and his chosen career path sure fits. A really great guy with an aim high kind of character. If this is the same Mark Tychonoviech, it would be great to know, yet very sad to hear of his passing.

After 1978 did Mark spend some time working for an insurance company in western Ohio? I believe I worked with him there till I took another job. I gave him a couple of Roman coins from my collection. He seemed like a good fellow...

Mark and I were buddies in high school. We lost contact with each other when I went to college, and he entered the service. He played right guard wile I was the center for our high school football team. No finer teammate, or human being ever existed. I'm deeply saddened by his passing and wish to express my sympathy to his wife and family.

I just learned of Mr. T's passing from the Wilbraham & Monson Academy magazine. He was my Latin teacher and advisor my last year there in 1984, and he was responsible for me finishing school with my sanity in place. My sympathies to his family and friends.

I was saddened to hear of Mark's passing. Mark was my student at Washington University. He would do graduate-level translations of Roman authors and we would laugh and discuss and probe and laugh! It was very clear from the more-than-full College Church on Wednesday how many lives Mark touched. I will miss him, as does everyone he knew. But most especially, I will miss his ever-present grin, a grin that told us volumes about his life and the kind of man he was. You have the deepest sympathy from all of us in the Classics Department at Washington University. You are in our thoughts and prayers

Mary,
I hope I get this right; it's been so many years since I took this language and if the vocab is correct: Magnum vir erat.
I'm sure someone will correct me. All my prayers and thoughts for you and the girls.

Mark (who will always be "Tych" to me) and I met on our first day of school 51 years ago. We became instant friends and even though our lives took us to different places, a day has not gone by that I have not smiled while thinking about our wonderful times together. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. Mary and the girls can be pround of the person their husband and father was. God never gave this earth a better man. I miss him so.

Oh Mary ...... God love you all. I'm so sorry to hear about Mark. Wish God's plan could have been different for you and the girls. Gone too soon.

Dave's daughter Joanna was baptized at College Church Sunday and the priest made the announcement about Wednesday.
Shocking. I'm here if you need a shoulder...or anything. Tina
