Mary Bodine Obituary

Mary Jane "MJ" Bodine died peacefully at home Saturday, December 27, 2025. Born in St. Louis in 1930 to Alice Moseley and Richard Eichelberger. MJ graduated from University City High in 1948. She then attended Stephens College until marriage to John B. Gury III in the summer of 1954 after meeting working as lifeguards in Maplewood.
Mary was a devoted athlete, and she had won several national championships in synchronized swimming, touring and teaching classes until she devoted her full time to family and new children John and Julie.
She was widowed at 46 years old in 1976 after a tragic car accident. Recovering with characteristic grace, determination and strength in 1980 she remarried to Jack Bodine, a long time family friend and business associate.The marriage lasted more than 44 years with a remarkable legacy of happiness and ongoing giving that they both embraced.
Services will be held at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church, 9450 Clayton Road on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please give to Ladue Chapel or charity of your choice.
