April 25, 1945 - December 8, 2025
Mary Ann Kirkwood Murphy, 80, of St. Louis, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 25, 1945, in St. Louis and was the daughter of Mary Purcell Kirkwood and Joseph Arthur Kirkwood.
She is survived by her husband, Forrest J. Murphy; her children Kirkwood James Drew, Molly Drew Danforth (Chris), Sarah Drew Rouse (David), John Lawrence Drew IV (Edith), Margot Moore (Charles), Forrest Murphy (Jill), Mercedes Murphy (Bailey Heck), Maura Murphy-Pusateri (Phil); and former husband, John L. Drew III. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Mary Ann (Annie) Danforth, Caroline Danforth, Drew Danforth, Eloise Danforth, Jane Rouse, Hunter Rouse, John L. Drew V, Graycen Drew, Grace Moore, Hudson Murphy, Liam Murphy, Cole Heck, AJ Heck, Rory Heck, Cosima Pusateri, and Nina Pusateri.
Mary Ann was the heart of her family. She had a remarkable gift for bringing everyone together, connecting them through her warmth, love, and kindness. Her legacy will continue through all who loved her. Mary Ann will also be remembered for her lifelong friendships and for her dedicated service on the Villa Duchesne board. Throughout her life, she was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and a true child of the Sacred Heart.
Mary Ann was a proud alumna of Villa Duchesne and Maryville University. She loved Christmas, "lady card day", sunsets in Naples, the Muny, white birthday cake and her pets.
Visitation will be held December 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lupton Millard Chapel, 7233 Delmar University City, MO 63130. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica, 4431 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108. Interment private. Forrey and Family of Mary Ann:
We cannot tell you how sorry we are that our beloved Mary Ann has left us. I grew up with Mary Ann going to Villa Class of '63 and Maryville Class of '67 with her. I lived in Parkview close to Lindell and we did a lot together. Mary Ann's parents, as you know, Forrey, were so good to me and all of our Villa and Maryville friends as we grew up.
After her parents left us, Mary Ann continued this role always entertaining us and being so generous and thoughtful. I have many fond memories of parties and events at your family home on Lindell.
We are grieving with you during this very difficult time of loss of Mary Ann. We have to believe that she is sitting at God's right hand with her parents planning the next party in heaven. Mary Ann, I have to miss it but I will join you at some point. Wait for me!
We will not be able to come to Mary Ann's Celebration of Life but will be thinking of all of you. We have been to fortunate to know Mary Ann. Please take comfort in so many fond memories of her.
We will mail a Mass card to you, your children, and your grandchildren, Forrey. May Mary Ann rest in peace for eternity.
