Melanie Mueth Obituary

Mueth, Melanie Rose (Mimi) M.D. 44, passed away June 24, 2016, in Edwardsville, IL. She was born March 1, 1972, in Belleville. She is survived by her most beloved husband, Manish Mathur, M.D., whom she married September 16, 2000, in Springfield, IL followed in October by a Hindu wedding ceremony in India. She leaves to cherish her memory three amazing boys: Dev Mueth Mathur (13), Dhruv Phillips Mathur (12) and Vahn Dominic Mathur (8); her adoring parents, Louis and Patricia (Phillips) Mueth; mother-in-law, Sharda Mathur; her dearest sister, Renee Julianne Mueth; and two beloved nephews, Baylor Del Herbert and Arlo Julian Herbert. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Minnie (Neff) Mueth and Ferdinand and Rose (Steger) Phillips; a brother in infancy, Stephen Richard Mueth and her beloved sister, Cynthia (Cyndi) Rose Mueth, whom she loved and missed beyond what words can express. Melanie graduated from Freeburg High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. She went on to obtain her Medical Doctorate from SIU Springfield, IL. She received her MBA from Webster University in St. Louis. She was currently the Medical Director of Palliative Care Medicine at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was responsible for starting the Palliative Care Medicine Consult service at Christian Hospital. She was a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPlV1), Palliative Care Network, and Lean Six Sigma and served on the Hospital Medical Director Certification Board. Melanie was former Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Christian Hospital. More than a wife, she was a soul mate to Manish, whom she lovingly nicknamed Burd. She was the most incredible Mom to her three boys, who were the center of her universe. Her Mom and Dad thought the world of her, and were so proud of their daughter the doctor, her ability to rise above any challenge, and her generous heart. She was idolized by Renee, who considered her seester Mimi the smartest and strongest person she knew. She was her best friend. Melanie had a fierce work ethic, which she applied to everything from her career to maintaining the organization of her sock drawer. She loved to go to yard sales, thrift stores and auctions. Her frugality and repurposing were evident to all who knew her. She would reuse Ziploc bags and use tape as band aids. She would dumpster dive if she saw a usable treasure, yet after years of hard work, finally bought herself a Tesla. She defined a good day by going to the Goodwill Outlet followed by lunch at Taco Bell. She was an amazing cook and an intermittent vegetarian. She was a runner, a bibliophile and a terrible gardener. She loved nachos and Diet Pepsi and hated TV. Through her leadership skill, her compassion for end of life care or her ability to befriend anyone, she left an impact on everyone she met. Her generosity was out of bounds. She was an amazing Mom who wanted to give her boys the world. Whether going to their baseball games, taking them on an Alaskan adventure in an RV or making homemade crepes on Saturday morning, she loved them with all her heart. She was immensely proud of whom they are and all they will become. Melanie was a beautiful soul who left this Earth far too early, yet her legacy and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of Manish, Dev, Dhruv, Vahn, her Mom and Dad, Renee, Baylor and Arlo and the countless others she touched in her life. As per Melanie's wishes there is no visitation. In lieu of flowers and donations the family asks for your prayers. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.

There's nothing I know that can take away the memory of losing a loved one but I hope GOD, in His infinite mercy, has helped in easing that pain. May the Lord GOD Almighty continue to bless you and the family with new and more pleasurable memories while carrying your loved one in your heart always.

February 15, 2017

Our deepest sympathies to the Mathur and Mueth families. We learned of this only today. Melanie was always so delightful to be with. Although we were classmates with Manish, it was she who kept in touch with us and who welcomed us with incredible hospitality when we visited some years ago. I deeply regret that our correspondence died out over the last few years. Too many times we take beloved souls in our lives for granted. May God bring peace to all her loved ones and those who mourn her.

Melanie my friend rest in peace
I met you for the first time in 2003 when I interviewed you for the IPC Hospitalist job in Christian Hospital.
We were delighted when you chose to join us because then you had a lot of job offers.
I was delighted after you completed your MBA and became our Chief medical officer.
I also had the privilege of having you consult on my patients from 2011 to 2016 through the BJC palliative care program.
You were indeed a compassionate, caring and excellent physician loved , admired and respected in the community.
I also had the privilege of meeting and knowing Manish your husband and the boys.
Thank you for that .
I chatted with you the day before your passing and did not know that would be our last time seeing one another on this side of the divide.
My wife and I remember you fondly
Rest in peace my friend

I met Melanie through Grand Rounds at Alton Memorial and remember most fondly her adoration of "my three rowdy boys." She was a great speaker, very knowledgeable, and truly compassionate. Each of her wonderful qualities shone through the moment she began her talk. She will truly be missed. My condolences to her family during this difficult time. Heaven is a richer place because of her.

July 1, 2016

As a physician, Melanie had an amazing combination of compassion and commitment. She practiced the art of medicine not in a way that was simple and easy, but in a way that was caring and "right." She was an inspiring teacher and a treasured colleague. Dr. Jay Jensen

Mueth family (Lou, Pat, Renee, and boys), Manish, Dhruv, Dev, and Vaughn. I took a moment today in silence to remember an old friend. I remembered as a child always being welcomed into the Meuth home not as a visitor, but as part of the family. I remembered running through the back yard down to the creek to save all the turtles and frogs, and Mr Mueth allowing to do crazy things like turning over the kitchen to sixth graders and allowing us to cook... he is a patient man! I remember Mimi and Renee fighting, and I remember Mimi lovingly holding Renee's hand on the bus because Renee was heading to school for the first time. Mimi was aways the champion for those in need, and the Mueth family always loving to those they welcomed as their own. Because of this great aura of love that has always surrounded this family I know that the spirit will embrace you all in love and ease your pain during this time. It is hard to understand but I know that God must have needed an extra special angel with only those unique qualities that Melanie had. May you all be blessed and wrapped in the spirits loving embrace.

Dear Manish and family, My heart is heavy as I feel the magnitude of this unmeasurable loss. I have so many fond memories of Melanie. From meditating with her many mornings during med school to capturing stray bats flying around her room to hearing the excitement in her voice as she fell in love with Manish (aka the green eyed god) and made plans to spend her life with him. She was such a great friend to me during celebrations and hard times. I'm very grateful to have had her in my life. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am greatly saddened to hear about Melanie's passing. My heartfelt condolences to Manish and your family. I had the honor knowing Melanie through MEMS community and the pleasure of spending time with Melanie at Camp DuBoise with our children. I admired her very much during that trip as she studied during our free time. Melanie and I went for a run together and I couldn't keep up! She and I enjoyed each other's company talking about our families. I admire Melanie and feel blessed to have known her. Wishing you and your family whatever you need at this time and continued prayers.
