Grote, Nancy Chase Kropp
Nancy Chase Kropp Grote died December 23, 2021, in Seattle, WA, after battling breast cancer and leukemia. She was surrounded by her husband, Bob Grote, her daughter, Sara Grote Cerrell, and her son, Hobey Grote. Nancy was a truly remarkable person: brilliant, loving, dedicated, creative, idealistic, generous, fun, funny and beloved by all who knew her. She is mourned deeply by her family, friends, colleagues and many others whose lives she touched. She made a difference. One of her friends said of Nancy: She was the kind of person you wished could live forever.
Nancy was born May 23, 1944, to Amy Chase Kropp and Eugene Randall Kropp at the US Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, where her father served as a Navy Lieutenant and fire chief during WWII. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Dean Hobart Kropp, who was two years younger. Nancy grew up in the University City suburb of St. Louis, Missouri.
Beyond the abundance of friends, colleagues and admirers, those who benefited from her work, and members of her Chase-Kropp-Grote family, to whom she is irreplaceable, Nancy leaves the people who were most important and dearest to her, and she to them: her husband of 53 years, Bob Grote; her daughter, Sara Grote Cerrell and son-in-law, Joseph Cerrell; her son, Hobey Grote and daughter-in-law, Kelsey Lowe; and her grandchildren Sal, Chase and Josie Cerrell, and Willow, Sam and Easton Grote.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 3:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Michael & St. George in St. Louis. Nancy's family created a memorial fund in her honor to support and further activities that she championed in her personal and professional life. To donate online, visit bit.ly/nancygrote
