Crecelius, Dr. Norman Douglas
of Farmington, passed away at 10:30 p.m., Nov 21, at Parkland Hospital after suffering a long illness. Born on Sept 28, 1942, he had just turned 80.
Dr. Crecelius was born in St. Louis, raised in Marianna, AR, and graduated from Arkansas State. He received his DO degree from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974 and took his residency at Normandy Hospitals in St Louis. He was a board-certified surgeon. In 1989, he and his family moved to Farmington, where he was on the staff of both Mineral Area and Parkland Hospitals. In 2002-12, he was an ER physician at the Bonne Terre facility.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan Crecelius, his parents Norman Hogan Crecelius and Margaret Helen Wagstaff Crecelius and two sisters, Peggy Adams and Sally Ann Holiday. He is survived by his wife Kay and two sons: Hogan (Bridget) of Jonesboro, AR, Andy of Farmington, two grandsons, Eli and Luke, and numerous nephews and nieces. His dog Dixie and three cats Maggie, Drey, and Zander will be lost without him. He leaves behind a host of longtime friends and grateful patients.
They threw away the mold when they made Norman. He was fun and funny, blunt, and highly irreverent. He was both an intelligent and pragmatic physician and tolerated no incompetence. He was highly skilled and could take apart the human body and put it back together, but he could not figure out how to work a remote control or do any common household repairs. He loved his family, especially Kay.
Services: A memorial visitation will be held Sat., Nov 26, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel, Farmington. Memorial donations may be sent directly to the St Louis Zoo or the Farmington Pet Adoption Center or they may be dropped off at the funeral home.

On behalf of my family, I wish to extend my sincere condolences. I knew Dr. Crecelius through my Mother, Marjorie Smith, who ran the pharmacy at Normandy Hospital. She always admired his work ethic, kindness, and dedication to the profession of medicine.
