Bridget, Annie and Lizzie,
Its been a few days, but I finally have the time to reflect on Ricky's passing. As you know we worked together for 36 years, but he was also one of my dearest friends. I am proud that he chose me to get to know.
I will miss him forever, and I know you guys will too. He was special in many ways. Ricky had a great sense of humor, he was bright and creative and dedicated to Boeing and to his customers. The Special Ops guys, (who Ricky called "snake-eaters"), loved him and made him one of their own. Ricky was one heck of an engineer....he really knew a lot about how to design aircraft and how to get things done in the real world. His accomplishments are still locked behind some closed doors, but I can assure you they were and are important for our nation's security. He was an unsung hero in many ways.
But more than all that, he was just a wonderful human being....he cared about people more than things. He made you feel appreciated and important, no matter who you were. He knew all the OA's and the janitors, and never hesitated to engage them in friendly banter about the baseball Cardinals, or the weather. He was really one of the brightest lights among many talented and engaging people who shared his passion and his many of has attributes.
In the end, heredity and mortality caught up with him, but I never saw him complain or feel sorry for himself when fate dealt him a such bad hand of cards. He was courageous and gracious and a real trooper in adversity - he would have been a terrific Special Ops guy if he had chosen to go that way, because he was always willing to trade his fate for the greater good. Ricky set a wonderful example for all of us to follow.
I loved him and will dearly miss him. My heart goes out to you guys, because we all know that we will never meet someone quite like Ricky again....he was special.
God Bless all of you, and if you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to give Jan and I a call.

Dear Bridget, Annie and Liz,
I can't begin to say how sorry we are to hear of Rick's passing. We always loved to receive Rick's "stealth" phone messages around the Michigan/Illinois games and when he was in town. To be able to have dinner with him during one of his trips west a few years back was very special. The memories we have of PTA and Keysor's fundraisers, unloading pizzas at 6am we will never forget. We may be in LA, but we still hold Kirkwood very near and dear to our hearts. Annie, thank you so much for calling and letting us know. And if there is anything we can do to help, please let us know. Please always feel free to pick up the phone and call. All our love and prayers go out to you.

Wow! So sorry to hear of Rick's passing. He was a valued co-worker for many years (and many years ago) as well as a good friend. After having left McAir 26 years ago, Rick would still call me every Holiday season to see how I was doing except for this past year, which, unfortunately, was a harbinger of his deteriorating health. Like all of us who Rick, I'll miss his upbeat outlook on life and his omni-present sense of humor....very much in the Jim Kamman and Fred Glaser mold, for those who remember them. He always kept things light even when the going was tough. I'm betting that God's going to be laughing a whole lot more going forward.
