Robert Mayer

1935 - 2025

"Bob", of Sunset Hills, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on December 3, 2025, at Friendship Village surrounded by family and friends.

Born on April 25, 1935, in South St. Louis City to Edith and Henry Mayer, Bob was raised with a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for service. He was the devoted husband of Joan C. (nee Tolman) Mayer, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Bob is survived by two children, Bill (Carolyn) Mayer and Karen (Dennis) Sandstedt, and was preceded in death by his son, Rob T. Mayer. He was the proud grandfather of Ellie, Rob Jr., Will, Andy, Kaitlin (James), John and Lindsay.

Bob is also survived by his twin brother, Richard Mayer, and was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte (Melvin) Doernhoefer. He was a dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many, and he maintained strong and enduring family and community relationships throughout his life.

Bob graduated from the University of Missouri and had a successful career in business, culminating in a leadership role at Anheuser-Busch overseeing compensation and benefits within the Human Resources department. Bob also served his country with distinction: he completed Army ROTC during college, served in the 102nd Infantry Division, and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves at the rank of Captain. Deeply committed to his community, Bob held leadership roles at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, was an active leader in the Boy Scouts, and served as an alderman for the City of Sunset Hills, contributing to many important civic decisions.

Bob's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the community he cared for, and the many people who were touched by his steadfast support, sound guidance and generous heart.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Friendship Village at Sunset Hills, 12563 Village Circle Dr., St. Louis, MO 63127 on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, there will be a committal at St. Lucas United Church of Christ followed by a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. served in the ballroom at Friendship Village at Sunset Hills. Family encourages all to attend the luncheon to share memories of good times spent with Bob over his life.
