Ron and I first meet at the old Stix, Baer and Fuller as our high school years were ending. At that time I had no idea that a kid from the city would profoundly impact the life of this North County boy. Over the years we got to know one another better while on the job, while attending UMSL and as we went to various "watering holes" in St. Louis and Illinois. I eventually left Stix to begin my career in education, but Ron and I would still find time to get together. On a Saturday night in January, 1974, Ron told me the story of talking the night before with a girl named Julie who was out with her girlfriends. I had first met Julie at Stix and had that "love at first sight" feeling, but and never had the courage to ask her for a date. Well, Ron made it a point to tell me that Julie had asked how I was. That simple bit of information from Ron resulted in me making that call...dating and getting engaged...and getting married to Julie later in 1974 AND Ron was right there with us as a member of the wedding party! Fifty years later I so much appreciate Ron´s comment and his encouragement to "give her a call."
From what I have read about Ron in his obituary, it is no surprise to me that he positively affected the lives of so many others. The caring, funny and thoughtful guy I knew appears to have continued to live his life that way.
My condolences to Ron´s family. Godspeed, Ron.
