Sara Surkamp, 72, of St. Louis, died peacefully on November 25, closing a remarkable life marked by artistry, resilience, and compassion.

An extraordinary artist and a brilliant businesswoman, Sara lived with a creative fire that shaped everything she touched. Her musicianship was fearless and honest, and her vision as a professional was sharp and unwavering. She navigated her life and career with the same courage that defined her private battle behind the scenes.

For more than thirty years, Sara fought cancer with a strength that astonished everyone who knew her. She refused to let illness silence her voice, dim her presence, or slow her generosity. Her endurance was not quiet resignation but an act of will, a declaration that she would live fully, create boldly, and love fiercely. That perseverance became a signature part of who she was: a powerful female force who met life on her own terms, no matter the odds.

Sara embraced many roles and poured herself into each of them. She was a musician, a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, and a friend. She is survived by her husband, David; her daughter, Saylor; her son, Evan; her grandchildren, Etta, Ella, Edison, and Emili; her daughter-in-law, Emma; her brothers, Fred and Chuck; and her sister, Jackie.

Her memory will live on in her music, in the people she uplifted, and in the love she gave freely and fearlessly. Sara's life was a testament to creativity, courage, and humanity. She will be profoundly missed.

We will be honoring the life of Sara on Thursday, December 4, at BERGER MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 9430 Olive Boulevard. Visitation begins at 12:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Immediately afterward, we will proceed together to Calvary Cemetery for a Graveside Service.
