Shirley Maul Obituary

Maul, Shirley Anna Banta 72, died September 3, 2008 peacefully at home with her husband, son and daughter near her side. Born in Sugarloaf Township, Illinois on December 1, 1935, she grew up in St. Louis, MO, attended Belnor Schools and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis. After moving East she received her Masters in Library Science degree from SUNY Geneseo with a portion of her studies being done at UC Berkley, CA. She served in the library at SUNY Potsdam before accepting a position at Vassar College Library in Poughkeepsie NY in 1973. There she served for 32 years and became the Head of Reader's Services. She retired in 2004. She was a member of the Dutchess County Genealogical Society and the American Library Association. She also had a lifelong interest in gardening and was a volunteer at the Locust Grove Gardens (Samuel Morse House). She traveled extensively in America and Europe including Russia, Greece, Israel and Egypt. Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister, she is survived by her husband of 52 years, William Maul, Jr., son Andre, daughter Danielle, grandsons Richard and Brendan, brother Merle Banta and sister Vivian Kattentidt.Services are at the WILLIAM G. MILLER & SON Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Graveside Service at the Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Louis, MO will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., under the direction of Collier's Funeral Home, 3400 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Ann, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice Inc., in Dutchess County at 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Her humor and kind and encouraging ways will be greatly missed.

Shirley was such a wonderful person.
She was a joy to know and so easy to love. Her humor and laughter were with her even in the dark days facing death. Heaven has become an even greater place with her presence.

May God hold you in His arms and comfort you with His everlasting love.
