Dubuque, Jr., Theodore J. MD 1927 - 2018 It is with great sadness that The CRUDEM Foundation reports the passing of our beloved founder, Dr. Theodore Ted Dubuque, Jr. on June 30, in St. Louis. When Dr. Dubuque, a highlyregarded St. Louis surgeon, recovered from a near-fatal illness in the early eighties, he looked for a way to express my gratitude for the gift of life. Ted's extraordinary vision and compassion led to his arrival in Milot, Haiti in 1985, the beginning of The CRUDEM Foundation, and the plan for success for H pital Sacré Coeur. Bowled over by the intensive poverty and impressed by the dignity, resourcefulness and welcoming, good spirit of the Haitian people, Ted made it his life's calling to turn a 6-bed Milot clinic into a quality medical facility. Today, H pital Sacré Coeur stands as one of Haiti's premier private hospitals and most notable success stories. The 200 bed, tertiary care hospital services a community of over 250,000 adults and children with critically needed quality healthcare and is a major employer and economic driver for the region. The abundant, transformative, life-saving fruits of one St. Louisan's vision and determination are evident everywhere one looks in northern Haiti. Ted would be the first to say that he alone was not responsible for all the accomplishments; God and an everincreasing community of supporters paved the way and continue to sustain the hospital. But we all know that Ted's vision, determination and devout faith helped shape and inform this mission for over 30 years. Remarkable. Extraordinary. Inspiring. Visionary. Kind and humble beyond measure. All words that aptly describe Ted. His own faith tradition perhaps describes him best: Ted truly lived up to the Jesuit ideal of being a man for others. We will miss him. The CRUDEM Foundation. P. O. Box 804, Ludlow, MA 01056 /

Sally, Charles, Phillip, Paul and Louis,
Thinking of you all during this time of deep loss.
Many of my earliest and fondest memories of summers growing up in Macatawa, Michigan is the time spent with your family. I was always in awe of your Dadbecause he flew in on the weekends throughout the summer, if I remember correctly. So it was particularly special when once I was invited to go on
a sail with your father and Sally. I felt so special to have this time with you Sally and your Dad all to myself. I remember that he made the whole enterprise of sailing incredibly straightforward -he was intentional, calm, gentle and I felt completely at ease in his presence even though I had not spent much time with him before this moment in time. It was the first time I had ever sailed on anything larger than a beginner sprite so it was truly legendary for me-and he made it all seem so effortless and natural. Mostly I remember the genuine kindness in his eyes when he spoke to me.

We want to express our deepest sympathies to Carol Dubuque and her family. It was a great honor to know and work with Dr. Dubuque over the years at Hopital Sacre Coeur CRUDEM in Milot. Dr. Dubuque supported our vision of turning a medical dispensary into a hospital. With his support the hospital became one of the best hospitals in Northern Haiti. He was a true missionary, and lived with compassion and an eagerness to help others. Dr. Dubuque will be truly missed.

Uncle Ted was gentle and compassionate. He was generous with his time and skill. I was both his nephew and patient and benefited from both experiences. He will be missed but well remembered by all who knew him

To the Dubuque family, sorry for your loss. Words can't erase the pain you feel right now so I will leave you this scriptural thought Psalms 94:19 When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comforted and soothed me. That is what God will do that for you. Pray for things to do that will soothe your pain.
