Dr. Valgard Jonsson

Jonsson, Dr. Valgard passed away on April 7th, 2016 at home in St. Louis, MO at the age of 83 1/2 . Valgard is predeceased by his father, Jon Nikodemusson, mother Anna Fridriksdottir, his siblings, Lilla, Fredrik, and Kjartan; and his son, Craig Valgard. He is survived by his loving wife Kay, daughter Colleen, son Christopher and his brother, Bjarni. Valgard is lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews in Iceland and in the United States. Valgard was born on July 14, 1932 in Saudarkorkur, Iceland. He emigrated to the United States and attended North Dakota State University and the University of North CarolinaChapel Hill. He graduated UNC with a Doctorate in Public Health. He moved to St. Louis with his family in 1965 to head the Public Health Laboratories for the City of St. Louis, where he worked for more than 33 years. Valgard was an active and faithful member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Valgard lived an active life; enjoying hiking especially to the Grand Canyon, scuba diving, biking, and bird watching. He loved books, poetry and was an avid reader. As much as he loved to read, he enjoyed writing. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Kutis Funeral Home at 10151 Gravois from 1 to 4 p.m.; the funeral service will be at 4 p.m. The service concludes at funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church or Comfort Hospice.
