Bauer, Werner K. 91, peacefully on Friday June 29, 2012. Beloved husband of 66 years to Barbara Bauer (nee Zumwinkel). Loving father of Bruce (Sally) Bauer, Susan (Jim) Lund, Sandy (Dave) Banzhaf, Sherry (Kirk) Angevine. Dear grandfather of Andrew, Laura, Steven, Rene, Neil, Kristine, Grant, Eric, and Cassie. Brother of Carole Ann Bauer (David) Hunter. Werner was a family man, a military man, a successful business man, and world traveler. In his youth he was an Eagle Scout and throughout life a swimmer, sailor, canoeist, tennis player, photographer, and teacher. Werner was a graduate of Cleveland High School, attended the U. of Illinois, U. of Illinois ROTC Horse Drawn field Artillery, the USNR Midshipmen School, and the USN General Line School. He was commissioned as Ensign US Navy, was on board the USS West Virginia when it was sunk by the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, and later served on two submarines making 5 successful war patrols, and retired his commission as a Lt. Cmdr. He was the president of Midwest Machinery Company for 33 Years, a member of the Webster Groves Presbyterian Church for over 50 year where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, trustee, Elder and Stephens Ministry. He was President of the Presbyterian Men of Missouri, 50+ year member and past president of the Webster Groves Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and Foundation Benefactor. Services: Memorial service Tuesday 3pm at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church, Lockwood Ave, Webster Groves, MO. Interment private. Memorial contributions preferred to The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693 or Boy Scouts of America, 4568 West Pine Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108. Visitation Monday 5-8pm at Bopp Chapel.
