Cummins, Winifred "Winnie" Blohm
Winifred "Winnie" Cummins, 99, died peacefully due to complications from a fall on December 14, 2020, at Sunrise of Roseville Assisted Living in Roseville, Minnesota.
Winifred Evelyn Blohm was born September 8, 1921 in Lake City, Minnesota to Jasper and Albertina Blohm.
When she was 11, her family moved from Minnesota to Chautauqua, New York. In high school, she followed the college prep track and graduated in 1939.
Winnie moved to Illinois where she graduated from Evanston Collegiate Institute. She worked for several years in Chicago before eventually settling in St. Louis. There she worked in the bacteriology lab at Barnes Hospital for many years.
Winnie was an active member at St. John's Methodist Church, especially in the Forum group, where she met Joseph Cummins. They were married Aug. 1, 1974. Following his death in 1984 she continued to manage their apartment building until moving to Bethesda Orchard at age 79.
At her church and at Orchard House she volunteered with coffee hour, hospice, annual bazaars, and other events. Winnie had many friends and loved visiting, embroidery, handcrafts of all sorts, reading and keeping up with world and local events.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Joan Blohm of Fredonia, New York, niece and close companion Susan Blohm of Arden Hills, 6 nieces and 1 nephew and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe Cummins, brothers Henry and Charles Blohm, and sister-in-law Doris Blohm. Private family services have been held. I miss the great conversations I had with Winnie. She was insightful, knowledgeable and so very witty. She was so interested in learning about other people“s lives. A truly great woman.
