Story City - Marilyn Hinderaker, age 91, of Story City, IA, died on, Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines, IA.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 22nd, at the Salem Lutheran Church, Radcliffe, IA. Burial was in the Radcliffe Cemetery. Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe was in charge of arrangements.
Marilyn Laidley was born on April 14, 1929 in Estherville, Iowa, to Lawrence and Blanche Laidley.
Marilyn attended Rockwell schools until high school when her family moved to Garden City, Iowa. She then attended Radcliffe Community School where she graduated in 1947. Marilyn enjoyed fishing with her dad, being outdoors, her dog, "Pal," and especially being part of a family with six sisters.
She was united in marriage to Lester D. Hinderaker on March 7, 1948. Together they farmed, as well as raised cattle and turkeys. To their marriage a son and a daughter were born, the joy of Marilyn's life.
Marilyn was active in their church, Salem Lutheran of Radcliffe, as well as their community for all her adult life. She also was a very avid learner and demonstrated this by furthering her nursing career many times over the years. She obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing degree while her family was young. She then received her Registered Nursing degree followed by a specialization in ophthalmology. Marilyn worked as a nurse in private practice, the hospital setting and many years at Iowa Eye Care in Ames, Iowa.
After retiring, Marilyn and Les moved to Story City where they were active members of the community. Marilyn then moved to Ankeny, Iowa, in 2017 where she resided until she passed.
Marilyn Hinderaker is survived by her children, L. Lynn (Angela) Hinderaker of Omaha, Nebraska and Jodi (Larry) Voigt of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan (Tara) Hinderaker of New York, Joe and Mary Lynn Hinderaker of Omaha, Missy (J) Starr of Ankeny, Brian Voigt of Ankeny and Scott (Christie) Voigt of Nashville, Tennessee; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Eddy of Swaledale, Janet (Duane) Nessa of Garden City, Janice Brandt of Story City, Maridee (Denny) Ward of Belmond and Judy Laidley of California; sisters-in-law, Geneva Hodnefield of Kansas City and Mary (Paul) Peterson of Atlantic, Iowa as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Les; her parents, Lawrence Laidley, Blanche Laidley Polsdofer; Blanche's second husband, Harvey Polsdofer; her sister, Maxine Morris, along with several brothers-in-law and other relatives.
