Robert Paul McMullen
Robert Paul McMullen, 54, died unexpectedly February 15, 2021 at home. He was born March 22, 1966 in Creston, Iowa, the son of Rev. George and Margaret (Dalton) McMullen.
Robb graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he met a fellow student, Valerie Johnson. He graduated a semester earlier than she and was then employed by Oakland Corporation in Story City as a programmer analyst. After Val graduated that spring, they married and settled in Roland where they would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary in May.
Robb was active at his church where he was the church chairman and loved serving God in every capacity.
He picked up Bagpipe playing as an adult and enjoyed marching in parades, Irish/Scottish festivals with the Iowa Scottish Pipes and Drums band of Des Moines, Iowa.
Robb enjoyed computer gaming and organized a twice a month international gaming event where he made lots of virtual friends and also included high school and college friends in the group.
Robb loved his wife and children and was always available if they needed help. The same with friends, extended family and church family, especially with their computer issues over the years.
Robb is predeceased by his father. Robb is survived by his wife, Valerie (Johnson) McMullen, and his children, Ryan McMullen of Roland, Madeline (McMullen) Tessmer and her husband Matthew of Oshkosh, WI; Meredith McMullen of Roland; grandson Leon McMullen; his mother Margaret; brother, Steve (Lisa) McMullen of Des Moines, IA; brother, Doug (Jacki) McMullen of Buffalo Grove, IL; sister, Catherine (Greg) Smith of Kansas City, MO and many many many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation is scheduled at Soderstrum funeral home in Story City on Friday, February 19th 5-7pm.
The funeral service will be at Bethany Lutheran Church 3113 Diamond St, Ames, IA on Saturday, February 20th 10:30am with internment at the Roland cemetery. Lunch will be following that at the Riverside Bible Camp, Dining Hall, 3001 Riverside Rd, Story City, IA.
