Roger Allen Auestad was born July 5, 1937 on the farm south of Radcliffe, IA to Rasmus and Agnes (Osmundson) Auestad. Roger attended Randall School, where he met Charlotte Ann Mott. He and Charlotte were married on April 14, 1956 at the old Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, IA. Rog and Char had one daughter, Lori in October 1958.

Rog also held jobs at Wells Fargo Bank, Record Printing and Norsemen Reality. Rog spent many years working with the Story City Economic Development Corporation. He enjoyed recruiting companies to Story City to talk about the benefits of the town and provide them opportunity for success. Rog was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City Lions Club and Roland-Story School Board.
